Privacy Policy and Cookie Notice

This policy explains how Inkriv collects, uses, and protects your personal information across our websites, apps, and browser extensions, including Inkriv Lens. Questions? Email us at support@inkriv.com.

Introduction

Inkriv ("Inkriv," "we," "us," or "our") provides AI-powered tools that help people think, research, write, evaluate information, and better understand what they read.

This Privacy Policy describes how we process personal information that we collect when you use Inkriv's websites, applications, AI-powered writing and research tools, browser extensions, including Inkriv Lens, and related products and services (collectively, the "Service").

Inkriv is currently operated independently and is not incorporated as a separate legal entity.

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or United Kingdom (UK), see Notice to European Users for additional information about how we process your personal information and the rights available to you.

1. Personal Information We Collect

The information we collect depends on how you interact with Inkriv and which features you use.

Contact data

Your name, email address, and other contact information you choose to provide.

Account and profile data

When you create or use an Inkriv account, we may collect your account identifier, username or display name, authentication information, account preferences, subscription information, settings, and other information associated with your account.

If you sign in using a third-party authentication provider, we may receive information such as your name, email address, profile information, and provider-specific account identifier according to the permissions you grant.

Communications data

Information contained in communications between you and Inkriv, including customer support requests, feedback, emails, survey responses, questions, and other communications you send to us.

Transactional data

If you purchase a paid Inkriv plan, we may receive information related to the transaction, such as subscription type, payment status, transaction identifiers, billing history, and subscription dates. Payment card details are processed by third-party payment processors such as Stripe. Inkriv does not directly store your complete payment card information.

Marketing data

Whether you have subscribed to marketing communications, your communication preferences, your interactions with emails we send, and how you discovered Inkriv.

User-generated content and input data

Inkriv is designed to process information you provide in order to perform the features you request. Depending on how you use the Service, this may include drafts, published writing, notes, ideas, prompts, questions, instructions, research, sources and references, documents, uploaded files, links, writing samples, outlines, comments, messages, voice input and transcripts, and other content you choose to submit.

Some Inkriv features may analyze content you provide to derive information that helps personalize your experience, such as writing style, tone, pacing, structure, vocabulary preferences, subject interests, and formatting preferences. These derived preferences may be used to help Inkriv produce suggestions and outputs that better reflect how you write.

2. Information Processed by Inkriv Lens

Inkriv Lens is a browser extension that helps you analyze and better understand content you choose to examine while browsing the web.

Information Lens may access

When you explicitly use Lens to analyze a webpage, article, or selected passage, Lens may access and process information needed to provide the feature you requested, including:

  • Text and other relevant content from the webpage
  • Text you select for analysis
  • The URL and title of the page being analyzed
  • Relevant page metadata
  • Claims, quotations, statistics, references, or other information on the page
  • Questions or instructions you provide to Lens
  • Analysis generated in response to your request
  • Your Inkriv account and authentication information
  • Information about your interactions with Lens

Lens is designed to access webpage content when you invoke a Lens feature, such as asking it to analyze a page, examine a claim, analyze selected text, investigate a source, provide additional context, or answer a question about content you are reading. Lens does not continuously monitor your general browsing activity or build a general history of websites you visit for advertising, profiling, or unrelated purposes.

Information accessed through Lens may be used to identify and analyze claims, examine evidence, evaluate sources, find relevant supporting information, provide additional context, highlight uncertainty or disagreement, identify statements that may require closer examination, analyze statistics or references, answer questions about content, generate analyses you request, provide sources for further reading, and to operate, maintain, secure, troubleshoot, and improve Lens's user-facing functionality.

Webpage content accessed through Lens is not used to create advertising profiles based on your browsing activity.

3. Information From Third-Party Sources

We may receive information from third parties where necessary to provide the Service.

  • Authentication providers: if you sign in using a third-party account, we may receive information made available by that provider according to your permissions and the provider's policies.
  • Publicly available information: certain features let you provide URLs, published articles, websites, research papers, public documents, or other publicly accessible material. When you request a feature that depends on such information, Inkriv may retrieve and process relevant publicly available content, for example retrieving links to your published writing so the Service can analyze your writing preferences.
  • Service providers: we may receive information from service providers that help us operate, authenticate, secure, analyze, maintain, or support the Service.

4. Information Collected Automatically

When you interact with the Service, we and our service providers may automatically collect limited technical and usage information.

Device and technical data

  • Browser type and version, operating system, device type
  • IP address and general geographic region inferred from it
  • Language settings and session identifiers
  • Device or technical identifiers
  • Error and diagnostic information

Service activity data

  • Features you use and actions performed within the Service
  • Pages or screens you view, session duration, access times
  • Errors and performance information

Information about how you interact with Inkriv's Service is different from collecting a general record of the websites you browse outside Inkriv. Inkriv Lens does not use general browsing activity across unrelated websites to create advertising profiles.

5. Cookies and Other Technologies

We may use cookies and similar technologies on Inkriv's websites and web applications.

  • Essential technologies: keep you signed in, authenticate your account, maintain sessions, provide requested functionality, remember essential settings, and detect fraud or abuse. Some essential technologies cannot be disabled without affecting the operation of the Service.
  • Preference technologies: remember choices such as interface preferences, product settings, and account preferences.
  • Analytics technologies: help us understand how users interact with Inkriv, which features are used, where errors occur, and how the Service performs. Where required by applicable law, we will request consent before using non-essential analytics technologies.
  • Marketing technologies: our public website may use marketing or attribution technologies to understand how people discover Inkriv and measure campaign effectiveness. Where required by applicable law, these are subject to appropriate consent or opt-out mechanisms.

You can control certain cookies through your browser or device settings. Information obtained through Inkriv Lens from webpages you choose to analyze is not used for targeted advertising based on your browsing activity.

6. AI and Automated Processing

Artificial intelligence is central to many Inkriv features. When you use an AI-powered feature, information relevant to the feature may be processed by Inkriv's systems and, where necessary, service providers that provide AI models or related infrastructure. Depending on the feature, this may include prompts, drafts, writing samples, notes, uploaded documents, research, sources, instructions, selected webpage content, relevant personalization information, voice transcripts, and other content you submit.

For example, writing features may process your draft and writing preferences; personalization features may process writing samples and published work you provide; research features may process questions, research material, and sources; audience analysis features may process content you choose to evaluate; and Inkriv Lens may process webpage content or passages you explicitly request it to analyze.

We seek to limit information sent to external service providers to what is reasonably necessary to provide the requested functionality.

7. How We Use Personal Information

Service delivery and operations

Provide the Service, create and maintain your account, authenticate you, process your requests, save documents and projects, generate AI responses, conduct requested research, perform requested analyses, provide personalization, maintain your preferences, manage subscriptions, provide customer support, and send Service-related communications.

Personalization

Understand your preferences, personalize your experience, adapt AI assistance to your writing, remember relevant settings, and improve continuity between interactions, for example by analyzing writing samples you intentionally provide so assistance can better reflect your tone, structure, and other preferences.

Inkriv Lens

Analyzing content, evaluating evidence, researching claims, providing sources, supplying context, answering questions, and generating requested analyses.

Service improvement and analytics

Understand how Inkriv is used, measure feature performance, identify problems, improve usability and reliability, and develop new features. Where practicable, we use aggregated or de-identified information for these purposes.

Communications and marketing

Send account notifications, security alerts, billing notices, product updates, and support responses. Where permitted, we may also send marketing communications about Inkriv features, updates, and promotions. You may unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time; this does not affect necessary Service, security, billing, or account communications.

Compliance and protection

Comply with applicable laws, respond to lawful requests, protect users and Inkriv, prevent fraud and abuse, detect security incidents, and enforce our terms and policies.

We may also create aggregated, anonymized, or de-identified information from data we collect and use it for lawful purposes such as research, analytics, and product development. Where information has been properly de-identified, we do not intend to use it to identify individual users.

8. Chrome Web Store Limited Use

Inkriv's use and transfer of information received through the Inkriv Lens browser extension is limited to providing and improving Lens's user-facing functionality and directly related operational purposes, including providing requested Lens functionality, maintaining the extension, security, fraud and abuse prevention, troubleshooting, reliability, customer support, and compliance with applicable law.

We do not use information obtained through Lens to:

  • Sell user data or browsing information
  • Build advertising profiles from your browsing activity
  • Serve targeted advertisements based on your browsing history
  • Transfer browsing information to data brokers or information resellers
  • Determine creditworthiness or make lending decisions
  • Provide unrelated products or services

Where information must be transferred to a service provider to provide Lens functionality, we limit the transfer to information reasonably necessary for that purpose.

9. How We Share Personal Information

  • Service providers: providers of cloud infrastructure, hosting, databases, AI models, search and information retrieval, authentication, email delivery, analytics, error and performance monitoring, security, fraud prevention, and customer support.
  • AI and information-processing providers: some user-requested features require us to send relevant information to third-party AI, search, or information-processing providers, for example transmitting relevant webpage content to an AI or retrieval provider to generate an analysis requested through Lens. We seek to limit information shared to what is reasonably necessary for the requested functionality.
  • Payment processors: payments are handled by third-party processors such as Stripe, which collect and process payment information according to their own terms and privacy policies.
  • Third parties you direct us to use: where you request, authorize, connect, or use functionality that requires interaction with another service.
  • Professional advisers: lawyers, accountants, auditors, insurers, and financial advisers, where reasonably necessary for their professional services.
  • Legal authorities and protection: where we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to comply with law, respond to valid legal process, protect rights or safety, investigate fraud or abuse, or enforce our agreements.
  • Business transactions: if the operation of Inkriv is transferred as part of an incorporation, investment, financing, acquisition, merger, reorganization, or sale of assets, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to applicable privacy obligations.
We do not sell personal information. We do not sell your personal information, writing, documents, or webpage content processed through Inkriv Lens for monetary consideration.

10. Retention

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, including providing the Service, maintaining your account, preserving projects you choose to save, providing personalization, maintaining security, preventing fraud, resolving disputes, and complying with legal obligations.

To determine an appropriate retention period, we consider the nature and sensitivity of the information, why it was collected, whether it remains necessary, the risks of unauthorized use or disclosure, and applicable legal requirements. When information is no longer required, we may delete, anonymize, or securely isolate it until deletion is possible. Backup copies may remain for a limited period before being overwritten or deleted through ordinary backup processes.

Webpage content and selected passages processed through Inkriv Lens are used as necessary to provide the analysis or other Lens feature you request. We do not retain Lens browsing information to create unrelated advertising or general browsing profiles.

11. Your Choices

  • Account information: you may be able to review and update certain information through your Inkriv account.
  • Marketing communications: opt out using the unsubscribe instructions in those communications. You may continue to receive non-marketing messages relating to your account, security, billing, support, or changes to the Service.
  • Cookies: control certain cookies through your browser, device, or consent controls we make available. Disabling essential cookies may prevent parts of the Service from functioning correctly.
  • Delete content: where available, you may delete content through the Service.
  • Account deletion: you may request deletion of your account and associated personal information by contacting support@inkriv.com. We may retain certain information where required or reasonably necessary for security, fraud prevention, legal obligations, financial recordkeeping, or resolving disputes.

12. Security

We use technical and organizational measures designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, alteration, destruction, and disclosure. Depending on the system involved, safeguards may include encryption in transit and at rest where appropriate, authentication and authorization controls, restricted access, logging and monitoring, security updates, and infrastructure protections.

No online service can guarantee absolute security.

13. Other Websites and Services

Inkriv may contain links to or interact with websites, applications, and services operated by third parties. We are not responsible for the independent privacy practices of third-party services. This Privacy Policy does not govern a third party's processing of information where that third party acts independently rather than as a service provider to Inkriv. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of third-party services you use.

14. International Data Transfers

Inkriv may use service providers located in countries other than the country where you live. As a result, personal information may be transferred to, stored in, or accessed from another country, where privacy laws may differ from those in your country. Where required by applicable law, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers of personal information. European users should also review the Notice to European Users below.

15. Children

Inkriv is not designed for children who are below the age at which they can lawfully consent to the processing of personal information under applicable law. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has provided personal information to Inkriv in violation of applicable law, contact us at support@inkriv.com. If we learn that personal information was collected from a child in violation of applicable law, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.

16. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in Inkriv's products, features, technology, our data practices, applicable laws, and regulatory requirements. If we make material changes, we may provide notice by updating this page, providing notice within the Service, sending an email, or using another appropriate method.

The effective date at the top of this Privacy Policy indicates when the current version became effective.

18. State Privacy Rights Notice

This section applies to residents of U.S. states to the extent that applicable state privacy laws apply to Inkriv and provide the rights described below. The specific rights available to you depend on your state of residence, the law applicable to your request, and whether that law applies to Inkriv. • Access: request access to personal information we maintain about you.

  • Deletion: request deletion of personal information, subject to applicable exceptions.
  • Portability: receive certain personal information in a portable format.
  • Appeal: where applicable, appeal a decision we make concerning a privacy request.

We do not sell personal information for monetary consideration. If an applicable state law defines certain advertising, analytics, or data-transfer practices as a "sale" or "sharing" even where no money is exchanged, we will provide any opt-out mechanisms required by that law where those practices apply. Information obtained through Inkriv Lens is not sold or used to create targeted advertising profiles based on your browsing activity.

We do not use personal information to make solely automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects concerning matters such as credit, lending, housing, employment, education admissions, health care, or criminal justice. We will not unlawfully discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right.

You may submit a privacy request by emailing support@inkriv.com. We may need to verify your identity before processing a request. Where permitted by law, an authorized agent may make a request on your behalf; we may request evidence demonstrating the agent's authorization.

20. Notice to European Users

This section applies to individuals located in the European Economic Area and United Kingdom, which we refer to collectively as "Europe." References to "personal information" in this Privacy Policy include "personal data" as defined under applicable European data-protection legislation.

Controller

Inkriv is currently an independently operated product and has not been incorporated as a separate legal entity. For purposes of European data-protection legislation, the individual operating Inkriv is the controller responsible for the processing of personal information described in this Privacy Policy. Privacy-related questions and requests may be sent to support@inkriv.com.

Legal bases for processing

European data-protection law requires us to identify a legal basis for processing personal information. Our legitimate interests

Where we rely on legitimate interests, those interests may include operating the Service, maintaining security, preventing fraud, protecting users, improving reliability, understanding product usage, improving user-facing features, responding to support requests, protecting our rights, and developing Inkriv. We consider whether those interests are outweighed by your rights and interests before relying on this legal basis.

Sensitive personal information

Inkriv is not intended as a service for storing sensitive personal information (such as government identifiers, racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, trade-union membership, genetic or biometric information, health information, sexual-orientation information, or criminal-history information) unless doing so is necessary for the particular feature you intentionally choose to use and you have the right to provide that information. Because Inkriv processes user-generated writing and research, content you voluntarily provide may incidentally contain sensitive personal information, which we will process in accordance with this Privacy Policy and applicable law.

Automated decision-making and profiling

Inkriv uses AI systems to provide suggestions, writing assistance, research, analysis, personalization, and other user-requested functionality, which may involve automated processing. However, we do not use personal information to make solely automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects concerning you. You may submit a request by emailing support@inkriv.com. We may request information reasonably necessary to verify your identity and respond. Whether a particular request can be fulfilled will depend on the circumstances and applicable law; if we decline a request, we will explain the reason where required by law. You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data-protection authority in the country where you live, work, or believe a violation occurred.

Transfers of personal information outside Europe

Some of the technology and service providers we use may process personal information outside the EEA or UK. Where personal information is transferred to a country that does not benefit from an applicable adequacy decision, we use legally recognized safeguards where required, which may include the European Commission Standard Contractual Clauses, the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, the UK Addendum to the Standard Contractual Clauses, or another legally recognized transfer mechanism. In limited circumstances, we may rely on a statutory exception where permitted by applicable law. Contact support@inkriv.com for additional information about safeguards used for international transfers.
